The DUO aluminium sun lounger pairs two materials that each do one job better than any single material can. A powdercoated aluminium frame carries the load and shrugs off water. Solid teak forms the deck and backrest you actually lie on.

Most poolside loungers in Malaysia are made entirely from one material, and each has a weak point. All-timber loungers are heavy to shift and the feet sit in standing water after rain. All-metal loungers get uncomfortably hot in direct sun and feel institutional. Plastic and rattan-effect pieces look fine for two seasons, then go brittle and chalky.

This design splits the work. The aluminium base sits in the wet, takes the weight, and stays put — no rust, no rot, no swelling. The teak sits where your body goes, staying comfortable underfoot and warm to the touch even after a full afternoon of sun.

Why an aluminium sun lounger frame outlasts an all-timber base

The failure point on outdoor furniture is almost always where it meets the ground. Feet sit in puddles on tiled pool decks. Water wicks upward. Over years, that’s where timber softens first.

Aluminium doesn’t have that problem — it contains no iron, so it cannot rust. It won’t swell, split or need re-sanding. The powdercoat is an exterior-grade polyester finish, applied over a chromate-free pretreatment, which is the same specification used on architectural window frames in tropical climates.

It’s also lighter. This aluminium sun lounger can be repositioned by one person, which matters more than people expect — loungers get moved to follow the shade, and a piece too heavy to shift alone tends to stay where it is.

The backrest adjusts through multiple positions on a stainless steel mechanism, from fully flat to upright reading position. Adjustment is done from a standing position at the head end, without lifting the whole frame.

Teak is used in the solid throughout — no veneer, no plywood core, no cheaper species hidden under the visible faces. Kiln-drying to 12% moisture content means the timber has already done most of its movement before it reaches you, which is what stops slats cupping in their first year.

Product care

Left alone outdoors, the teak on this aluminium sun lounger will fade from honey-brown to a soft silver grey over roughly six to twelve months. This is a surface change only. The wood underneath is unaffected and loses no strength — it’s the same weathering you see on teak boat decks.

If you prefer the original colour, sand lightly with 120 grit and finish with 240 grit. About an hour per lounger brings the warm tone straight back. Repeat once every year or two, or simply leave it to grey.

The aluminium frame needs nothing beyond an occasional wipe with mild soapy water. Avoid abrasive pads and solvent-based cleaners, which will dull the powdercoat.

Cushion covers are removable and machine washable on a cold cycle. Bring cushions indoors during extended heavy rain — the fabric is quick-dry, but the foam lasts longer if it isn’t saturated repeatedly.

No annual oiling, sealing or covering is required. This piece is built to stay outside year-round, uncovered.
