Solid Teak Bed Frames

Every Teakia bed frame in Malaysia is made from 100% solid teak — the headboard, the rails, and the slats you will never see. No plywood, no veneer, and no shortcuts in the places that don’t show. Mortise and tenon joinery, locked with bolts on the inside, is what keeps a bed silent for twenty years instead of creaking after two. Standard sizes are held in stock, delivered and assembled in your bedroom across the Klang Valley.

Will a solid teak bed frame creak?

A bed creaks when a joint works loose and two surfaces start rubbing against each other. That happens for two reasons: the timber is too soft to hold a joint under load, or the joint was never cut properly to begin with. Cheap frames usually manage both.

Teak is a dense hardwood, so the joint stays tight under weight instead of slowly crushing. Every Teakia bed is put together with mortise and tenon joinery and then locked with bolts on the inside — the joint carries the load and the bolt stops it working loose. There is no plywood anywhere in the frame, including the slats.

How a Teakia bed frame is built

Construction

Solid teak, right down to the slats

Most bed frames save money underneath. The headboard looks convincing, then the base turns out to be plywood, particle board, or thin softwood battens stapled into place. We don’t build that way. The slats on a Teakia bed are solid teak, roughly 5 cm wide and spaced 2–3 cm apart, giving the mattress firm, even support along its whole length.

The slats sit about 5 cm below the top edge of the frame, so the mattress settles down into the bed rather than perching on top of it. It stops the mattress sliding, hides the mattress edge, and gives the bed a cleaner line from across the room.

Knockdown design

It comes apart when you move

Every bed we make is a knockdown design. It goes up a stairwell, into a service lift, and through a standard condominium doorway in pieces, then bolts back together in the room. When you move house in five years, it comes apart again and travels with you. A glued-and-fixed frame has to be cut up or left behind.

Choosing the right size

We build to the four standard Malaysian mattress sizes. The one thing worth checking before you order: measure the room, not the mattress. A solid teak frame adds roughly 10–15 cm on each side of the mattress, so a queen bed occupies noticeably more floor than the mattress dimensions suggest.

  • Check door and lift access before ordering

Headboard and finish

Headboard

Solid teak, 110 to 120 cm tall

Our headboards are solid teak and stand between 110 and 120 cm — tall enough to sit up against with a book or a laptop. We stay away from upholstery unless a client specifically asks for it. Fabric in this climate collects dust, absorbs humidity, and looks tired long before the frame does. Timber you can simply wipe down.

You choose the finish. Four stain options run from a light tone that brings out teak’s natural grain through to a deeper walnut, so the bed can sit with existing furniture rather than fighting it. The finish is smooth to the touch, low in sheen, and can be touched up years later if it ever needs it.

A bed frame you can repair

This is the part most buyers never think about until it matters. When a bed reaches the ten year mark, what happens next depends entirely on what it was made from.

Solid teak

  • A loose joint is tightened, not replaced
  • Scratches and dents sand out
  • Can be re-stained to a different tone entirely
  • Still worth something second-hand

Divan, metal and board frames

  • A sagging divan base cannot be re-tensioned
  • Bent metal stays bent
  • Chipboard swells once and never recovers
  • Upholstery stains are permanent

Solid wood is the only bed material that gets a second life. We have repaired beds older than the business, and they went back into service looking close to new.

What to expect from solid wood

We would rather tell you this before you buy than after. Our teak is properly kiln-dried and treated, but solid wood is a natural material and it responds to its surroundings. Move between an air-conditioned bedroom at night and Malaysian humidity by day, and the timber expands and contracts very slightly with it.

Over the years you may notice a hairline check on a long panel, or a fine line appearing at a joint. This is normal behaviour for solid teak and it is not a fault or a sign of poor quality — it is the difference between a natural material and a manufactured board. It does not affect strength, and it settles. Furniture that never moves at all is usually furniture that isn’t solid wood.

In stock, delivered and assembled

Our standard designs are kept in stock. In the Klang Valley that usually means same-day or next-day delivery, with our own team assembling the bed in your bedroom and taking the packaging away. You are not left with a flat box and an allen key.

If a design is out of stock, the lead time is around eight weeks, since each piece is made in our own factory rather than bought in. Storage beds with drawers are available as a custom build only — we don’t hold them in stock — and custom work is taken on above a minimum order value across mixed items rather than a single bed on its own. Every bed carries our standard 5 year warranty.

Complete the bedroom

Push the headboard. Look underneath at the slats. A bed frame is difficult to judge from photographs, and five minutes in the showroom answers more than any product page can.
