Short answer: There are four standard bed frame sizes in Malaysia — single (90 × 190 cm), super single (107 × 190 cm), queen (152 × 190 cm) and king (183 × 190 cm). The frame itself is always larger than the mattress: allow roughly 8 cm on each side and 10 cm at the head and foot, so a king bed occupies about 199 × 210 cm of floor. As a rule, a king needs a bedroom at least 3.4 m wide and a queen at least 3.1 m.
The bed frame size Malaysia uses is not the same as the sizes you will find in most guides online. Our king is wider than a British king. Our queen is shorter than an American queen. And we have a size — super single — that barely exists anywhere else in the world.
That matters, because a bed is the one piece of furniture you cannot easily send back. Get the size wrong and you either live with a cramped bedroom or you start again.
This guide gives you all four sizes, the floor space each one really takes up, and an honest view on which one belongs in your room. We have been manufacturing solid teak beds for more than 20 years, so these numbers come off the workshop floor rather than a copied chart.

Malaysia works to four standard mattress dimensions. Every bed frame sold here is built around one of them.

Floor space figures are a planning reference for our solid teak beds and vary a little by design.
Those last two columns are the ones almost nobody publishes, and they are the ones that decide whether the bed works in your room.
Why a bed frame is always bigger than the mattress
The mattress size is not the size of the bed. The frame wraps around the mattress and the headboard adds depth at one end. That extra material is what you should be measuring your room against.
On our beds the working rule is roughly 8 cm extra on each side and about 10 cm at the head and the foot. So a king mattress of 183 × 190 cm becomes a bed occupying close to 199 × 210 cm of floor.
This shifts slightly from design to design. A heavier frame with thick rails takes a little more, a slim design a little less. As a planning figure it holds up well.
The 2–3 cm gap you cannot see
Look at the inner opening column again and you will notice it is slightly wider than the mattress. That is deliberate. We build 2 to 3 cm of clearance on each side so the mattress drops in without a fight, and so you can tuck in a fitted sheet without wrestling the mattress out of the frame.
A frame built tight to the mattress looks neat in a showroom and becomes a weekly irritation for the next fifteen years.
Will it actually fit your room?
This is where most bed frame size Malaysia decisions go wrong.
A king takes 199 × 210 cm of floor. To walk comfortably down both sides and past the foot you want around 70 cm of clear space. That puts the minimum room width for a king at roughly 3.4 metres. A queen, at 168 × 210 cm, needs about 3.1 metres.
3.4 metres is a minimum, not a comfortable number. Below it, a king starts eating the room.
What we watch go wrong
A client has a room that suits a queen. We recommend a queen. They choose king anyway. On installation day the bed goes in and there is suddenly nowhere for a wardrobe, no space to walk past the foot of the bed, and nowhere to put storage. The bed is fine. The bedroom is ruined.
We will always give our recommendation, but the final call is yours. Some people genuinely want the biggest bed and will happily surrender the rest of the room for it. That is a fair choice, as long as it is made knowingly rather than discovered on delivery day.
Super single: the bed frame size Malaysia has that other countries don’t
Super single is 107 × 190 cm. It sits between a single and a queen, and it is largely a Southeast Asian size. Look at a standard American mattress size chart and you will not find it anywhere.
Who actually buys one:
- Parents buying for a growing teenager who has outgrown a single
- Homeowners furnishing a third or fourth bedroom
- Rooms for live-in house help
- Adult children buying a proper bed for an aging parent
The case for it is simple. If the room will be used by one person and there is no space or budget for a queen, super single wins every time. A single sleeper gets real room to move, and the frame costs less than a queen.
The saving people forget is the second one: super single mattresses are cheaper than queen mattresses too. Dropping a size saves you twice.
King or queen: how most Malaysians decide
Across our own bed sales, king and queen dominate. Single and super single are the specific-situation sizes. Between king and queen the split is close to 50/50, which tells you there is no universally correct answer here — only a correct answer for your room.
The 31 cm of extra width a king gives you over a queen is real and you will feel it, particularly if you share the bed with children or a dog. It is also 31 cm taken away from everything else in the bedroom.
Measure the room, then pick the size. Not the other way around.
Short on space? Choose drawers, not a smaller bed
If the room is tight, sizing down is not the only answer. A bed with drawers in the base gives you back the storage you were going to lose to a chest of drawers anyway.
We build bed frames with drawers. We deliberately do not build hydraulic lift-up storage beds, and the reason is the material. Solid teak expands and contracts with humidity — that is normal, healthy behaviour for solid wood. Gas struts and hydraulic mechanisms need consistent tolerances to keep working over years. Put the two together and eventually you get a mechanism that binds or fails.
There is a plainer point too. A drawer opens with one hand. A lift-up base means clearing the bed and hauling the whole mattress up every time you want something out of it.

Getting a king through your door
A fair worry with a bed this large: the room fits it, but can it get there? Condominium lifts, narrow staircases in older terrace houses, tight landings.
Every bed we make is fully knockdown. It arrives as separate components and is assembled in the room using mortise and tenon joinery locked with bolts from the inside. The largest single piece on a king is the headboard, at roughly 120 cm tall and 200 cm wide.
In more than 20 years we have never had a bed we could not get into a house or a building. The same construction means the bed comes apart cleanly when you move, instead of being written off.
Measure your room, then choose your bed frame size
The most useful thing you can do before shopping is take a tape measure to the bedroom. Note the width and length of the floor, where the door swings, where the wardrobe opens, and where the windows sit.
